Lavender…

Lavender…

A color… a flower… a fragrance… an herb… what comes to your mind when you see this word, lavender? For me, all of the above! I can’t separate the tactile sense and smell of the flower from  the cool, calm tint of purple origin. The many benefits of lavender are well known, but here are just a few:

– in aromatherapy as a fragrance that relaxes the mind and body
– in medicine and soaps as an antiseptic
– in culinary dishes and desserts as an accent herb.

When I design with lavender in floral arrangements, clusters of this spikey blossom add a sense of “whimsy”, as well as that amazing scent. A few years ago, my friend Sara who owns Black Lotus Design (one of the wedding and event companies that donates fresh floral product to Heliotrope for Hospice) designed these wonderful arrangements featuring fresh cut lavender, scented geranium, poppy pods, succulents, statice and sweet peas. Thought I’d share them with you and say thanks to Sara for her support and generosity!

  1. Diane, I have believed in and been of fan of Heliotrope since you first told me about it! You are doing such important, fulfilling and meaningful work and I feel honored to be even a tiny part of it! Not only does it feel fantastic to be able to donate flowers for you to re-purpose from the typically wasteful wedding industry, my clients love it too! They have been so touched when I’ve asked them to donate to your cause. Can’t wait for more people to get on board and help you celebrate each day!

    • Sara, You inspire me! Thanks for your support-
