Orchestra Nova
Last weekend was really exciting for Heliotrope for Hospice! I was asked by Megan, Event Coordinator, of Orchestra Nova (formerly, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra) to participate in Nova Goes Green, The Lobby Experience, for their last concert series of this season. For this interactive event, I built a bamboo and wire fencing screen to hang succulents ‘echeveria’ and orchids ‘cymbidium’ on long, sheer and irridescent ribbons. This selection promotes sustainability, in that the succulents are drought tolerant, and orchids, whether as plants or blooms, are a long lasting floral choice to enjoy. I partnered with Orchestra Nova by setting up my display by their donation tree, and if someone donated to the orchestra, they would receive an orchid or succulent to pin on (if they chose a succulent, I loved to say: “wear it tonight, plant it tomorrow”!)
The main reason Megan asked me to participate in this event is that she heard thru the “floral grapevine” via Britton of Tend, and Sara of Black Lotus Design, about Heliotrope for Hospice and the mission to provide bedside floral arrangements for people in hospice care. Megan wanted me to reach more people with Heliotrope’s vision, and this was a perfect opportunity to share my philosophy of celebrating life with flowers.
If you stopped by to see that “unusual display” in the lobby at Orchestra Nova … or if I got the chance to talk to you personally… or if you just picked up a business card- thank you! I appreciate your comments and encouragement. Thank you to Judy for the 20+ bloom orchid plant you donated. Thanks to Julia for your interest in delivering bedside floral arrangements to the San Diego Hospice, Glenbrook, in Carlsbad. Thanks to Jacqui for inquiring about flowers to your patients in home hospice care with Hospice by the Sea in Solana Beach (we will figure it all out!).
Most of all, thank you to Megan, for contacting me in the first place, and giving me the chance to reach out for Heliotrope, and to make an awesome, living art piece which I hope you all enjoyed – it was my pleasure!
So much information written so well. Your creativity and passion shine in your work of floral art and photos. So many caring people giving of their music, talent, time, contributions and love. What a blessing for those who attended these events. Great opportunity for you and Heliotrope for Hospice. Nice pic of you and your floral screen. Well done, Diane!
OH MY!!! The screen was beautiful !!! Those ribbons made it look sooo interesting and like you wanted to go into it and explore. And such a beautiful color combination with the orchids.
You’ll have to tell me all about the connections you made – can’t wait!!
