Sunflower Joy
Sunflowers are my way of spreading flower love– simple, happy, long lasting as a plant or cut flower. I love all the varieties that are available on the market now, but still go back to the humble beginnings of the dark chocolate brown centers with bright lemon yellow petals radiating out to greet me!
This month of July marks 14 YEARS of Heliotrope for Hospice! so I pay homage to the flower that represents our mission. The logo of Heliotrope is, in fact a sunflower! SO with a generous donation from my wonderful friends Martha and Eddie, I procured the best price, and made trios of sunflowers in red solo cups to share with people in hospice care!

Thru the years, I love that Martha and Ed continue to celebrate their birthdays by giving flowers to strangers… who need a gift of beauty. With their generous donation to Heliotrope for Hospice, people in hospice care received a bit of flower love. From Washington to So. California, these incredible friends decided to reach across the miles to honor and celebrate life!
On this 14th birthday of Heliotrope for Hospice, flowers are still making a difference in the lives they touch. It’s a small thing, but a huge thing… relying on “gently used” flowers to repurpose, or making sure every penny of donated monies go to the best flower deal on the market- this is the task at hand, and I’m grateful to do it, as often as possible.
If you would like to celebrate your special days, whether a birthday, anniversary, or in honor & memory of someone you love, consider donating … this gift- providing flowers to people in hospice care. Whether thru check or PayPal, I’ll make sure bedside flowers are bringing in a bit of sunshine, for this part of life’s journey π«ππ»

Comment You are making a difference! *We absolutely love the work you are doing to honor and cheer hospice patients. We will never forget your kindness to Edβs beloved Dad as he suffered with dementia. The flowers that you brought to his home provided solace and comfort to him as well as family members who were taking care of him. When he looked at his bouquets, Edβs dad always thought that he had grown the flowers himself and they made him happy and proud. You brought flowers every Friday for over two years as his disease progressed, and he eventually passed away peacefully at home. Your generous efforts and the gorgeous flowers are really appreciated! We are honored to support this incredible work. Thank you for sharing the love.
Sending love,
Martha and Eddie
Martha, it was such a privilege to delivery flowers to your father in law- I still think of him every time I go by Bird Land. Oh how he loved HIS flowers π And of course, I think of you & Ed- the bittersweet memories are never far from my mind. Thank you, beyond measure, for your flower love and continuing support π
Comment *The flower love and joy you’ve shared throughout these past 14 years through Heliotrope for Hospice continue to warm my heart, sister. Your mission and purpose and selfless dedication to bringing a little sunshine into people’s sunsetting days is inspiring. The world could use so much more of this. Love you!!!
Ann, thank you for your support all these years! A small idea became a reality… every time I repurpose or procure blooms for people in hospice care, I think of Dad (who was the inspiration), and Mom (who supported Heliotrope for Hospice with so many donations in memory and honor of her friends who passed before her). They traveled this part of life’s journey with flowers by their side ππ¦ππΌππ»
