Heliotrope for Hospice: A Cherished Charity to Support
As October unfolds, Heliotrope for Hospice, a cherished charity in San Diego, is filled with gratitude. We recently received a generous donation of seasonal plants from Trader Joe’s Hillcrest, a testament to the community’s support for our cause.
A Bounty of Seasonal Blooms
One of my best contacts for donations, Kris from Trader Joe’s, called with a last-minute request for us to pick up a large donation of plants. From Autumn chrysanthemums to Halloween-themed succulents planted in novelty ceramics, we were thrilled to receive such a variety of living gifts! Each plant was carefully watered and adorned with a twill Heliotrope for Hospice ribbon before being delivered to various hospices across San Diego County.
These plants will be set on bedside tables for people in hospice care and their families. This is the power of community support and the impact of charity donations.
Embracing Festive Traditions
While some may question the appropriateness of Halloween or Dia de los Muertos gifts for those in hospice care, we believe in the power of celebration. My parents, both teachers, loved these holidays and embraced the opportunity to celebrate traditions with “children of all ages”. Every year, no matter how old I got, I would receive a Halloween card from them, sometimes with a picture of them dressed in costume!
I am incredibly grateful for the hospice volunteers, nurses, and caregivers who help distribute these plants- their invaluable dedication and compassion to make sure that a gift of beauty gets to those who need it most. Whether it’s through donating flowers or making a financial contribution, your support will help reach more people during this time in life’s journey.
As we look forward to the upcoming holidays of November and December, I wish you all enough time for precious moments to cherish with your family and friends. Thank you for your continued support!
